During this summer period, the increase in population and tourist activity in the Setúbal Peninsula also translates into greater waste production. To meet this challenge, the Amarsul and municipal teams are making an additional effort, with more people and resources on the ground, reinforcing collection, cleaning and sanitation operations. But this is an effort that requires everyone's collaboration: correctly separating waste and placing it in the appropriate containers are essential steps to keep the region cleaner and more sustainable.
In this context, Amarsul is currently carrying out an operational reinforcement for the summer of 2026, with the aim of responding to the significant increase in the production of recyclable waste associated with the bathing season, the seasonal growth of the population and the increase in economic activity in the Setúbal Peninsula.
Among the main actions, the strengthening of the teams focused on door-to-door collection from businesses and services stands out, strengthening the response capacity with commercial establishments during the period of greatest economic and tourist activity.
Amarsul also reinforced cleaning operations and the removal of waste left around the recycling points, with more dedicated teams. As a result of this intervention, approximately 16 tons of paper and cardboard were collected in the months of June and July, corresponding to 50% of the total waste collected in actions dedicated to the surroundings of the containers.
The washing of the recycling points is another priority defined for this period. To this end, more equipment washing teams are in operation, and in July alone, more than 1,000 containers were washed in the municipalities of Almada and Seixal, in addition to approximately 250 containers sanitized in Setúbal.
For Antonio Afonso, Director of Amarsul, “Summer represents a particularly demanding period for waste management in our area of intervention. This operational reinforcement demonstrates the company's commitment to ensuring a quality service, closer to the population and capable of responding to the seasonal increase in waste production. Investing in more teams, more resources, and more cleaning and sanitizing actions contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable region, better prepared to welcome those who visit and live in it.”
To citizens, to those who live in and visit the region, Amarsul makes an appeal: be part of this initiative. Separate waste correctly, use the appropriate equipment, and do not deposit materials around the recycling points. A cleaner region begins with the actions of each individual.

Every action counts. Because, together, we can do the impossible.
