Resulima is reinforcing its operation and container network with the installation of new recycling points and new glass recycling containers equipped with an assisted transfer system (designed to facilitate the unloading of containers used by restaurants and hotels), in an investment aimed at responding to the seasonal increase in waste production characteristic of the summer months, and improving the service provided to the population and commercial establishments.
Regarding citizen services, the company is reinforcing its selective collection network with the installation of 65 new sets of recycling points, corresponding to 195 containers, intended for the three types of recyclable waste: paper/cardboard, plastic, and metal and glass. 29 units are already being installed in public spaces, and 21 will be distributed in Barcelos, 21 in Viana do Castelo, and 15 in Esposende. This initiative aims to improve the service provided to the resident population and respond to the increase in waste production that historically occurs during the summer.
This is the first phase of a reinforcement project encompassing all six municipalities in the system, which will continue in the coming months and throughout the next year, as part of a strategy aimed at improving service, user satisfaction, and meeting environmental goals.
In parallel, Resulima is also installing new glass recycling containers equipped with assisted disposal systems in areas with a high concentration of hotels, restaurants, and snack bars (HORECA). These containers are specifically designed to facilitate the disposal of glass packaging by these commercial establishments and promote more efficient management of this waste stream.
These glass recycling bins, 120 in total, are being installed in the six municipalities served (Barcelos, Viana do Castelo, Esposende, Arcos de Valdevez, Ponte da Barca, and Ponte de Lima), and are primarily intended for restaurants and snack bars, allowing for the direct discharge of smaller 120-liter containers, previously adapted to the system, which are also being delivered by Resulima to 360 establishments. This delivery is accompanied by an awareness campaign for the correct management and separation of waste produced in these locations and for the correct use of the equipment. Both the glass recycling bins and the containers were financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
It is important to remember that the amount of glass deposited in recycling points has decreased in recent years, despite being the most traditionally recycled type of recyclable waste in Portugal. Food and beverage establishments are among the main producers of this type of waste, which is why this customized solution is intended for them.

We want to ensure that citizens and businesses have the necessary conditions to correctly separate their waste and actively participate in the circular economy. This strategic investment seeks to meet the current needs of municipalities and the population, but also to prepare for the future,” emphasizes Rui Silva, Director of Resulima.
