ALGAR, the EGF Concessionaire in the Algarve region, and ENTRAJUDA (Algarve), revealed the results of the "Separate food to feed" campaign in favor of the Food Bank Against Hunger in the Algarve (BACF).

The aim of this initiative, which resulted from a protocol between the parties concluded in 2013, is to collect recyclable plastic, metal and ECAL packaging (cartons for liquid food), to sell them and to buy food products for children up to 3 years of age.

In 2017, a total of 8,170 kg of packaging waste was received and raised enough money to purchase more than a hundred packages of baby food, adapted to the specific nutritional needs of children up to 36 months of age, supported by the Banco Alimentar do Algarve .

The Algarve BACF, beneficiary of the campaign, is currently cooperating with 100 institutions and supports 17,000 people through the distribution of food. According to Nuno Alves, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BACF, "there is a great shortage of food of the segment, namely, baby food and milk flours", 450 of the various applications received, referring to children from 0 to 3 years of age.

"The campaign has obtained adhesion by the population and several local entities, which with the gesture of separation of waste, over these years, has already guaranteed the referral for recycling of 39 370 kg of packaging waste and allowed the delivery of 4,000 € in food products, thus helping those who need it the most ", says Telma Robim, Managing Director of Algar.

All will be able to continue to collaborate for this campaign, so it is enough only to deliver the empty packaging at Algar facilities, which are located throughout the Algarve region (www.algar.com.pt) from Aljezur to Alcoutim, or at the Food Bank in Portimão and Faro, informing that they are in favor of the "Separate food to feed" campaign.
