Amarsul is carrying out a pilot project in the Municipality of Alcochete, which consists of replacing the lids of the yellow and blue 1,100-liter containers made available to residents, with others with larger openings, to facilitate the disposal of recyclable waste.

Amarsul was, at the end of last month, at Largo Barão de Samora Correia, together with the Municipality of Alcochete, following the work on replacing the container lids that make up the ecological islands in this municipality. All households in the municipality were informed of this change by post mail.

This change will make it possible to assess whether it is possible to facilitate the work of those who separate waste to recycle, without leading to the undue deposition of undifferentiated waste in containers intended only for recyclables. The results of this pilot project will allow decisions to be made that will be extended to all municipalities where Amarsul has placed this new typology of containers, that is, Barreiro, Moita, Palmela, Sesimbra and in the eastern part of the municipality of Montijo.

As for the deposition of bulky waste such as mattresses, furniture, sofas and the like, as well as tree branches, garden scraps and recyclable waste, this should be carried out at the Ecocenters that Amarsul has at the disposal of the population. In Alcochete, the Ecocenter is located on Caminho Municipal 1004, close to the Industrial Area of Batel. The reception of this type of material is free and is available for the population to visit from Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 12:30pm, closing on Sundays and holidays.

The project was supported and co-financed by POSEUR - Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources and aims to increase and optimize the quantities of recyclables separated at source.
