NOVEMBER 18TH 2022

From 19 to 27 November the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) takes place, this year dedicated to the theme "Textiles - Circular & Sustainable, Waste is out of fashion!".

In this edition of EWWR, EGF and its 11 concessionaires promote activities to raise awareness on waste reduction, product reuse and material recycling.

EWWR 2022 aims to draw attention and create awareness on the need to bring more circularity to the textile sector.

Textile consumption in Europe has the fourth highest impact on the environment and climate change, after food, housing and transport. And it is in the top three on water and land use and in the top five in terms of raw material use and greenhouse gas emissions.

During this week, citizens, private organisations, public entities and NGOs are organising actions that aim to alert society to the reality of excessive consumption in the textile sector and what alternatives exist. This initiative also includes prevention, reuse and recycling actions that cover several types of waste and also includes campaigns to clean up several spaces (beaches, riverbanks, streets, green spaces, etc.).

EGF and its concessionaires, in EWWR, implement and support various activities that contribute to this objective of raising awareness for waste prevention and which is also based on the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, and these are the basis for changing the habits of the consumer society.

Throughout EWWR, EGF will be on the "Manhãs da Comercial", between 9am and 10am, promoting waste prevention habits and “Linha da Reciclagem”, https://linhadareciclagem.pt/, a free service that seeks to answer all questions about municipal waste.
