The EGF and the Center for Communication of the Oceans are organizing the sixth lecture dedicated to the theme of plastics in the marine environment today, 26.09.2018 at 9:30 am in Lisbon.
This lecture is attended by expert speakers and enthusiasts who will present the question in a singular prism in a study built with 10 tons of plastic!
This initiative will take place at the Valorsul Screening Center in Lumiar, but will also be broadcast live on www.egf.pt
ALIGNMENT OF THE SESSION
Microplásticos: What are they and what can we do?
- Dra Filipa Bessa - Researcher (biologist) of MARE-University of Coimbra, specializing in microplastics in marine environments.
Plastic trash in the seas off the coast of Cascais
- Miguel Lacerda - sailor, diver and leader of a pioneering study on plastic garbage on the cliffs and remote beaches of Cabo da Roca and its surroundings.
Prevention, Reuse and Recycling
- Susana Silva - Responsible for the area of Communication and Awareness of the company Amarsul, will present the latest social innovation projects of EGF.
A SINGLE AND UNIQUE EVENT
This lecture will take place at the Valorsul Screening Center in Lumiar, in the studio prepared for this purpose with 49 plastic bales (PET), a total of 10 tons that will be sent to recycle this week and that can, for example, shirt. Only in bulk! After the lecture, a visit to the Screening Center will be conducted, where the participants will have the opportunity to see the whole process of treatment of the packages that we put in the ecopoints for recycling.
The initiative aims to raise awareness and raise awareness of the problem with a concrete point of view and to present solutions, namely that human behavior must be more conscious so that waste can be prevented, reused and exploited on land so that it never reaches the sea.
About the Oceans Communication Center
The Oceans Communication Center is a project of Nysse Arruda, journalist and curator, nautical specialist for more than 20 years in Portugal, author of several publications and awarded in 2016 by the Femina Prize. It started this project to promote the debate on the essential issues associated with the Sea, and obtained institutional support from several institutions, especially the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of the Sea, the Ministry of the Environment, the Lisbon City Council, the Hydrographic Institute, the Sciences of Lisbon, IPMA and Unesco-Portugal.
This project is also sponsored by the Olympic sailors João Rodrigues and Joana Pratas, but also with the Brazilian sailor Torben Grael, the surfer Garret McNamara and the American NGO Marine MegaFauna Mozambique.
