JULY 12, 2019

During August, in partnership with the Living Science Center of the Algarve, Algar, EGF's concessionaire in the Algarve region, is participating in the project Ciência Viva in the Summer in Network. It starts on July 15 and ends only on September 15. This initiative has been organized for 23 years by Ciência Viva, in collaboration with more than a hundred scientific institutions, Centros Ciência Viva, associations, municipalities and companies.

There are about 800 actions for all ages and throughout the country, always in the company of experts. Observations of the night sky at Tibães Monastery, ethnobotanical itineraries through the footbridges of the Paiva, SunSets with Science in the Algarve beaches, botanical visits to the Estufa Fria de Lisboa and routes from the Mãe d ' Água das Amoreiras to know the water heritage of the capital are some of this year's activities.

It is the third consecutive year that Algar is invited to participate. This year the company proposes to make guided visits to the Transfer Station and Triage of Faro / Loulé / Olhão (Loulé) and / or Portimão Landfill.

Visitors will be accompanied by a technician who will show the processes of recovery and treatment of the various types of municipal waste received at these facilities, namely: sorting and forwarding of recyclable packaging to the recycling industry; the confinement of undifferentiated waste in Landfill; the treatment and valorization of the biogas in the Energy Enhancement Unit and the treatment and valorization of the Green Residues in the Composting Unit, where they are transformed into an organic compound.

Take the invitation, take the science in your suitcase on vacation. See the Live Science Summer Program in Network and reserve your places at www.cienciaviva.pt/veraocv/2019/. Visits to Algar's facilities are subject to prior registration.
