Valorlis, EGF's concessionaire in Alta Estremadura, ended 2019 with the highest value ever in the selective collection of municipal waste. Separation in ecopoints increased 17% compared to the same period in 2018. The involvement of the population was essential to achieve these results.
This year, a total of 12,460 tons of waste was sent to recycling in the Valorlis intervention area: 4,865 tons of glass, 5,377 tons of paper / cardboard and 2,218 tons of plastic and metal packaging. The increase in all materials was notable, with the separation in plastic and metal ecopoints having registered the highest growth (19% more than in the previous year). There was a very positive evolution in separation of glass for recycling (16% more). Paper / cardboard recycling grew by 15%.
The selective collection effort in the municipalities in the area of influence of Valorlis (Batalha, Leiria, Marinha Grande, Ourém, Pombal and Porto de Mós) resulted in the saving of 80 thousand trees; metal that allows the manufacture of more than 11.4 million cans of 0.33 liters; enough plastic to produce more than 1.8 million XL t-shirts and an amount of glass that can produce around 13.9 million 0.75 liter bottles.
Marta Guerreiro, CEO of Valorlis, points out: “This improvement is due to a greater environmental awareness of the population, coupled with a strong investment in new ecopoints, different types of containers, vehicles and awareness campaigns for the correct separation that Valorlis have been developing together with the municipalities. And adds: "Despite the excellent results achieved, we are aware that our effort to provide an increasingly better service to the population must continue, so that together we can build a better environment for all".
