MARCH 03, 2020

Valorminho, EGF's concessionaire in the Alto Minho region, responsible for the treatment and recovery of urban waste in the municipalities of Melgaço, Monção, Valença, Vila Nova de Cerveira, Paredes de Coura and Caminha, increased its selective collection by 13% compared to same period of 2018.

In 2019, 3928 tons of waste from the Valorminho intervention area were selectively collected, accounting for: 1824 tons of glass, 1430 tons of paper / cardboard and 674 tons of plastic and metal.

Greater environmental awareness among the population, coupled with the investment that Valorminho has made in the selective multi-material collection of packaging waste in recent years; namely in vehicles, ecopoints and containers for selective collection and a strong commitment to awareness campaigns for the correct separation of waste, allowed growth in all materials: 15% on glass, 8,7% on paper/cardboard and 17,5% on plastic and metal.

This investment is part of an application financed by the Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources (POSEUR) and concretizes a strategic option outlined in the Action Plan of the Strategic Plan for Urban Solid Waste in response to the challenges introduced by PERSU 2020 in regarding the increase in multimaterial recycling, thus contributing to the improvement of the service provided to the municipalities in the intervention area.
