Valorsul, the EGF concessionaire for the region of Lisbon (North) and the West, is undergoing a major investment in order to improve the public waste management service provided by the company to municipalities and citizens.

By 2021 the company's investment plan amounts to 55 million euros and compensates for the last half decade of containment.

STRONG EFFORT IN RECYCLING

The plan is already being implemented and includes 8100 containers for recycling and 1,500 new sites for selective collection; 28 vehicles to renew and reinforce the collection of recyclables and also the remodeling of the two Sorting Centers. A new unit for composting green waste and the installation of solar panels in 5 units of the company is also planned.

INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

The mobilization of citizens is essential for these investments to result in a significant increase in recycling. Therefore, the company is focused on sensitizing people. There will be, in the coming months, a great investment in communication with different strategies for schools, commerce, events and families.

Innovative ways of encouraging and rewarding separation and recycling behaviors are also being tested. The mobile Recycle BinGo application (which reached 5,000 users a month) is the first example. The game gives prizes to those who regularly visit their ecoponto.

To implement some of these projects, Valorsul counts on the support of the POSEUR program - Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources and the Environmental Fund - ENEA.
