For EGF and the Mota-Engil Group, sustainability is the concept that underpins, from a perspective of organisational excellence, the economic, social and environmental principles that a company must follow.
Energy Recovery

The energy potential of the waste we produce is very high, and at EGF we endeavour to get the maximum value from the raw materials we process. This energy valorisation is ensured through various processes.

EGF has 58 motor-generator groups, with an installed capacity of around 46,600 kW and an average energy output of 500 GWh/year.

Energy recovery through incineration

Through its concessionaire Valorsul, EGF owns an energy recovery plant with a capacity of 662,000 tonnes per year. This plant, located in São João da Talha, produces enough energy to supply a city of 200,000 inhabitants.

In addition to energy, the Energy Recovery Plant produces slag, as a product of this facility, which is subsequently valorised by sending ferrous and non-ferrous metals for recycling and producing certified aggregate for road construction and other applications.

Energy valorisation through biogas production

At EGF, the biogas produced in the anaerobic digestion plants and landfill sites is an added value in waste treatment, allowing the maximum value to be extracted when everything possible has already been recycled and treated previously.

EGF uses the biogas produced in all its landfill sites for energy recovery.
