At Cidade do Rock, recycling also takes centre stage

Valorsul returns to Rock in Rio in 2026 with an initiative that brings together music, urban art and recycling, as part of the “Together we make the impossible happen” campaign. This reinforces the commitment to sustainability at major events, in keeping with the spirit of the festival, showing that, when everyone gets involved, recycling can also be part of the show. In an atmosphere that celebrates sharing, creativity and the involvement of thousands of people, Valorsul invites festival-goers to join this collective effort, demonstrating that small individual choices can translate into positive impacts on the scale of the entire event.

In partnership with IADE, university students and young designers will transform Valorsul recycling bins into works of urban art, with the participation of festival-goers and drawing inspiration from music, recycling and visual references from the cities of Lisbon and Loures. The initiative will take place on 20 and 21 June, dedicated to the municipality of Lisbon, and on 27 and 28 June, dedicated to the municipality of Loures. After the festival, the decorated recycling bins will be given a new lease of life in public spaces, being placed on the streets of Lisbon and Loures, bringing the message of recycling closer to local communities.

The initiative takes place in a space designed to engage the public with recycling in a simple, practical and interactive way, promoting the correct sorting of waste in a relaxed yet impactful setting.

At the same time, Valorsul will run awareness-raising sessions before Rock in Rio begins, targeting the event’s organisational and set-up teams, and will provide support materials, including eco-bags, three-stream waste bags and signage displaying the recycling code, helping to reinforce good waste management practices before, during and after the event.

“At a major event like Rock in Rio, which involves so many people, companies and local authorities, we must remember how important it is for everyone to contribute to a sustainable event. Valorsul will work in partnership with local authorities to promote best practice, engage people and create the conditions for recycling to become part of everyday life, both inside and outside major events. We want to do more and do better for our regions and communities, because it is when everyone gets involved that, together, we make the impossible happen,” emphasised Marta Neves, CEO of EGF.

With this initiative, Valorsul reinforces its commitment to more responsible events and demonstrates that recycling gains momentum when it brings together people, creativity and participation. Because, in recycling as well as at Cidade do Rock, together we make the impossible happen.
